A short introduction to the folk-culture lineages of southern China.

Liuren and the Living Traditions of Lingnan

Liuren and the Living Traditions of Lingnan

Lingnan — the region spanning Guangdong and Guangxi in southern China — is home to some of the country's richest living folk traditions. Among them is Liuren (六壬), a body of classical practice and lore that has been carried forward within family and temple lineages for generations.

These traditions were historically transmitted orally and through apprenticeship, from teacher to disciple. They encompass calligraphy, ritual craft, music, community ceremony, and the study of classical texts. Today, cultural-heritage practitioners work to document and share this knowledge so that it is preserved for a new generation and understood accurately by a wider world.

HE FAJIE is rooted in this Lingnan context. Our founder is a practitioner within these lineages, and our work aims to honor them — presenting their artistry and symbolism honestly, as culture and craft.
